Veeam Data Protection Platform In 2023, Veeam has changed its Veeam Backup and Recovery to Veeam Data Protection Platform. The reason why Veeam changed the name because its product has gone beyong simple backup and recovery system, but also it acts as a platform to protect your data. Veeams new features including Inline Malware detection for security, Protection for VM, Physical, Cloud and SaaS workload, and add integration for Incident response as well. Veeam also is an example of company who want to simplify its licensing model.
VUL (Veeam Universal License) is very simple and flexible for customers. With VUL, customers can apply
to license to protect VMs, Cloud VMs, Servers and Workstation.
For up to 10 workloads, customers can use Veeam Backup & Replication FREE Community Edition to protect your Virtual, Physical and Cloud Workloads.
For up to 50 workloads with less than 250 employees, customers can buy the most afforadable Veeam Data Platform Essentials License starting with a bundle of 5 instance license pack.
For more than 50 workloads or more than 250 employees, customers can buy Veeam Data Protection Univeral License (VUL) starting with a bundle of 10 instance license pack.
Veeam Per Socket Perpertual License is still available for customers who do not wish to switch to subscription based.

Veeam Backup and Repliation FREE Community edition includes
- Backup for virtual and physical workload on-premises
- Restore VMs, Granular file and application with Veeam Explorer for Microsoft applications
- Restore or Migrate on-premises workloads to AWS, Azure or Azure Stack
- Immutibility hardened repository
Limitations:
- Only upto 10 workloads per customer
- No Cloud Connection feature
- No malware scanning
- No API
- No Syslog Forwarding
- No Four Eyes protection
- No MFA
- No WAN accellelator
- Veeam support is not included

If the customers needs to protect more than 10 workloads but less than 51 workloads, or the customers require Veeam Support for problem troubleshooting, the customers can buy Veeam Data Platform Essentials
Veeam Data Platform Essential includes all features in the Enterprise Plus Edition

Limitations:
- Veeam Essential is designed specifically for small businesses with fewer than 250 employees and 50 workloads
- Veeam Essential requires a minimum of 5 licenses, and these are sold in packs of 5, and up to 50 licenses Yearly or Mutliyear Subscription with Veeam 24/7 Global Support
If the customer organization has more than 250 employees or needs to protect more than 50 workloads, the customer can move to the standard Veem Data Platform VUL or Perpertual editions
- Veeam Essential includes Veeam Backup and Recovery , Veeam One features, but does not include Veeam Orchestra feature

For customers who are not eligible for Veeam Essential Edition, the customers can buy Veeam Data Protection Univeral License Edition (VUL). There are 3 editions for VUL; Foundation, Advanced and Premium.
Foundation edition is Veeam Backup and Recovery
Advanced edition adds the Veeam One monitoring features to the Foundation
Premium edition adds the Veeam Recovery Orchestra features to the Advanced
